URGENT! New Team Policies & Severe Attendance Issues
Good afternoon,
This email is to inform all of the parents that we are consistently severely short on swimmers at practice. Out of our 43 swimmers we have 10 or less consistently there. Our year round swimmers are letting us know where they are, so we appreciate it. There are a few swimmers who are good at communicating where they are at each time they miss, but for the most part we have 80%+ of the team who is not attending practices regularly if at all.
As a program, we have worked hard to ensure a full hour of practice time, nicer gear for our swimmers, and better planned out practices and workouts. It is extremely frustrating that some of our same swimmers who have had loud demands and complaints over the last few seasons be the ones who are missing out on these improvements. As parents ourselves, the coaches and I wanted everyone to be aware that there is a significant lack of attendance so you can check on your children to ensure that they are where they need to be.
To ensure that we are growing to be a true 7A program and just an after-school program for kids to have fun and be watched, we will implement the following rules starting today:
•Swimmers who miss any practices without a legitimate excuse will not participate in that week’s swim meet
•Legitimate excuses include: family death, a funeral, illness. An illness is a medical condition that is either contagious (flu, cold, fever) or debilitating your ability to swim
•As student-athletes, it is your responsibility to attend to academics on your own time. We ask for one hour a day for swim. Please arrange all tutoring and after-school help around our 2:45-3:45 window of practice
•If you have a job, which you should have known prior to the season, please schedule that job around this one hour. Some of our swimmers have done a great job with this, and you may ask them how to go about making sure they can do both
•If you are caught skipping parts of practice or events at swim meets you will be suspended for a week from swim. That is both unprofessional and rude to our coaches to think that you are above your team
•After two weeks of suspensions, either consecutively or not, you will be dismissed from the team. No refunds
